Over the past three years, 2500 people have died and 700 000 have been forced to flee in Mozambique as a result of terrorists and insurgents. The rebel group, al-Shabab, has been targeting Believers, but will hurt anyone who gets in their way.
When they attacked Cabo Delgado, they started beheading people.
“That night, our village was attacked, and houses were burned.” One mother told staff, “When it all started, I was at home with my four children. We tried to escape to the woods, but they took my eldest son and beheaded him. We couldn’t do anything because we would be killed too.” (source: ICC)
“After my 11-year-old son was killed, we understood that it was no longer safe to stay in my village. We fled to my father's house in another village, but a few days later the attacks started there too. Me, my father and the children spent five days eating green bananas and drinking banana tree water until we got transport that brought us here.” (source: Save the Children)
Christians have now been fleeing to Palma for safety but Palma is not safe anymore. Insurgents have infiltrated this area too and people are running and hiding for their lives.
People are hungry, tired and scared.
Pray for the spiritual, emotional and physical health of these people.
Pray for Mozambique.
Pray that the government will step in and stop this terror.
Pray for the persecutors, that they will be repentant.
