A large family in Lalu village, India, all became Christians about 15 years ago. One Sunday in February, while the whole family was at an early church service, a neighbour ran in to report that their house was burning. By the time they ran home, the house and all of the family’s belongings, as well as their crops, were destroyed. The fire was set intentionally by Hindu radicals from another village who had read about this family, knew their reputation as Christians and saw the opportunity to harm them while they were at church. Because of this attack, the local church has decided to meet only as small house groups rather than as a congregation.
