On 27 September 2020, war broke out between Armenia and Azerbaijan over an area called Nagorno-Karabakh. While the area belongs to Azerbaijan, the majority of the population living there are Armenian.
While what little the media has let out about this war has said its territorial or ethnic, this is actually a religious war.
Lela Gilbert told CBN News: “It is definitely a religious conflict and one of the things that it’s very hard to find in the secular media is that’s the reason. It’s usually referred to as ethnic or territorial, but it is clearly religious and at this point, Turkey has jumped in with mercenaries, actually, jihadis and this is making it all the more volatile."
Middle East Monitor says this war has "killed about 30,000 people and 604 Nagorno-Karabakh defence personnel have been killed." Many christians are taking refuge in bordering countries.
Pray for Armenia and Azerbaijan, that this war will not continue.
